Rohit Shetty has explained why his latest cop film Singham Again doesn’t feature a “DeepVeer” moment — a romantic or playful scene between real-life couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
Speaking to News18, the director revealed that the decision was carefully thought out, primarily due to the film’s connection to the theme of the Ramayana.

Singham Again is rooted in the Ramayana, and Shetty was determined not to hurt anyone’s sentiments by introducing scenes that could be seen as disrespectful. He explained that even though there was potential for a light-hearted moment between Ranveer and Deepika’s characters, it was avoided.
He shared, “Even for Ranveer’s character, there’s no conversation that he has with Deepika’s character. We did all this so that no one got hurt for even a second. Otherwise, we would’ve loved to bring them together and put a scene where they’re having a banter. Since Ranveer was a reflection of Hanuman ji’s character, it could’ve gone seriously wrong.”
Shetty added that while there was a playful banter between Ranveer’s character and Akshay Kumar’s, he consciously decided against a similar scene with Deepika. The director made it clear that their main goal was to balance entertainment while being mindful of the film’s sensitive thematic elements.
Filmmaker Wasn’t Concerned About BO Performance But Its Ramayana Connection
Shetty further explained the challenges of working with a film that touches on deeply emotional and spiritual subjects. “We were worried throughout the making. Star cast and action were on one side. But what we were alert and conscious about was not going wrong because we’re all emotionally connected with the Ramayan. Not hurting anyone’s sentiment was the biggest task for us,” he said.
Despite the pressure, Shetty said that he wasn’t concerned about the box office performance of Singham Again, but more about whether the audience would react negatively to the film’s handling of the Ramayana aspect.
The film, which was released on November 1 during the Diwali weekend, has already made waves at the box office, earning over Rs 200 crore in India.
The third instalment in the Singham franchise stars Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. The star-studded cast and action-packed sequences have attracted a massive audience, making it a box-office hit.
