Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava is performing exceptionally at the box office. The film, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, has won praise for its powerful storytelling and strong performances.
Now, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association has urged the Maharashtra government to make it tax-free.
Mumbai Dabbawala Association Sends An Appeal To Maharashtra CM
According to Mid-Day, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, requesting tax exemption for Chhaava.
The period drama tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the brave son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and his resistance against Aurangzeb.
Subhash Talekar, president of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association, highlighted their strong connection to the Maratha warrior. “Our ancestors fought alongside Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. For us, both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj are revered figures,” he said.
Why Chhaava Should Be Tax-Free?
The association believes the film’s tax-free status will help more people watch it. They see Chhaava as a crucial historical film that portrays the bravery and sacrifices of Sambhaji Maharaj. Making it more accessible could also inspire younger generations.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Chhaava features a talented cast. Vicky Kaushal plays the lead role, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays Maharani Yesubai. Akshaye Khanna plays the deadly Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The cast also includes Divya Dutta, Diana Penty, Ashutosh Rana, and Vineet Kumar Singh.
The film was released on February 14 and has been doing well in theatres. Critics have praised its gripping narrative and performances, though some pointed out minor issues with sound design and pacing.
