Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar passes away, govt ordered to shut theatres!

Puneeth Rajkumar, a Kannada actor, died today at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru after having a heart attack while working out in the gym this morning. Basavaraj S Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, was there at the hospital to see how the 46-year-old actor was doing. Puneeth’s elder brother, actor Shivarajkumar, and Yash were also present, according to sources.

The actor was last seen promoting Shivarajkumar’s Bajrangi 2 and the news has shocked the whole South Indian cinema industry. The star had even tweeted good luck to the film this morning.

The Bengaluru Police Commissioner summoned an emergency meeting and demanded that the state’s security be tightened. The Karnataka government has also ordered the closure of theatres across the state due to the state’s law and order issue.

On the acting front, he was most recently seen in Santhosh Ananddram’s Yuvarathnaa. He and Priya Anand recently concluded filming for Chethan Kumar’s James.

Over the course of a two-decade career, the actor, also known as Appu and Powestar, appeared in a number of hit films and amassed one of the Kannada film industry’s largest fan following.
