Superstar Mohanlal reunites with director Priyadarshan for a film based on boxing

Priyadarsh talks about the release of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham too.

So far, the legendary Mohanlal and the renowned director Priyadarshan have collaborated on 29 Malayalam films. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, one of them, is yet to be released. Malayalam cinema’s two legends are already working on their next project.

“It is the story of a boxer, his rise to fame and then his fall. Mohanlal and I have done all kinds of films together. But we’ve never done a sports film. I’ve always been fascinated by Scorsese’s Raging Bull. So you could say this would be our Raging Bull,” reveals Priyadarshan to Bollywood Hungama.

Mohanlal will have to lose at least 15 kgs for the role. “And then gain it all back, and add at least ten kilos to show the aging out of shape boxer. Would he be able to do it? Of course he will! Is there anything that Mohanlal can’t do?” reveals Priyadarshan.

About the release of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, Priyadarshan tells the portal, “We were supposed to release on 12 August. But with Covid raging across some states it seems unlikely. But whenever we release it will be in theatres only. The Kerala Film Distributors Association has promised to give us a 3-week window whenever we release Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham.”
