Crew Movie Review: Kareena Kapoor, Tabu And Kriti Sanon Take Us To A Fun, Hilarious And Sassy Ride In This Glamorous Heist Comedy

Crew brings together three smashing women: Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon. Producers Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor have crafted an entertaining caper-cum-heist that breaks stereotypes and showcases female camaraderie. Set in the world of Kohinoor Airlines, the movie explores financial struggles, greed, and the thrill of illegal activities. The movie’s backdrop loosely takes inspiration from Vijay Mallya and Kingfisher Airlines.

Crew: Plot

Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine Bajwa (Kareena Kapoor Khan), and Divya Rana (Kriti Sanon) work for Kohinoor Airlines, a thinly-veiled stand-in for the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Their flamboyant owner, Vijay Walia (Saswata Chatterjee), leaves thousands of employees in the lurch after declaring bankruptcy. When suitcases full of gold bars and illegal activities come into play, our trio jumps right in. But soon, they find themselves up against the long arm of the law. Jail or bail?

Crew portrays the struggles of underpaid middle-class employees battling daily to make ends meet, while bosses remain unaffected. Quitting isn’t an option, even when thoughts of giving up plague you. So much is at stake, including your provident fund. You toil both at work and at home, while bosses revel in the fruits of your labor. They spend employees’ hard-earned money on lavish parties, weddings, and designer clothes. And at the top, a few frauds amass all the wealth.

Crew: Performances

All three leading ladies—Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon—deliver brilliant performances in Crew. Their screen presence and chemistry adds to the movie’s delicious watchability. However, it’s Kareena Kapoor Khan who truly stands out. Her witty dialogue delivery and hilarious expressions steal the audience’s hearts. With impeccable style, she portrays the wickedness of her character.

Tabu, in her older woman avatar, is so comfortable that she effortlessly steals the show. Her portrayal of Geeta combines sass, swag, and vulnerability. Kareena treads the thin line between greed and need with ease. Jasmine is the girl who always wants more, coveting luxury items like that LV bag and the Beemer. Kareena’s performance adds the right mix of humor and emotional layers. Kriti holds her own as Divya Rana from Haryana. She balances innocence and determination, portraying a character who is both a liar and endearing. Kriti’s chemistry with Tabu and Kareena contributes to the film’s charm.

Diljit brings grounded sexiness to the screen. His smitten interactions with Kriti’s character add a delightful touch. Kapil Sharma, known for his comedy, surprises us with his acting chops. Rajesh Sharma and Kulbhushan Kharbanda contribute effectively too.

Crew: Analysis

The glamour quotient in Crew is top-notch, thanks to producer Rhea Kapoor. Despite being portrayed as three broke girls, the fashion and costumes worn by Kareena, Tabu, and Kriti are stunning. The movie beautifully showcases the bittersweet friendship between the three main characters. From sharing dirty jokes to becoming partners in crime, their relationship resonates well with audiences.

The screenplay by Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri lacks sheen and while some contrivances exist, overall it manages to go through. However there is much potential in the plot that remains untapped. Director Rajesh A. Krishnan who came to light with his OTT film, Lootcase, maintains a fleet-footed pace, balancing comedy and emotion.

The songs blend seamlessly into the narrative, enhancing the overall experience. The background score complements the mood of each scene.

In this fun, frivolous, entertaining film Crew, the harsh realities faced by India’s middle class come to life. Amid crumbling surroundings, they put on a facade of normalcy for the world. The movie masterfully combines serious message with a delightful, humorous tone—which is an art in itself.

Crew: Verdict

Crew washes away the stench of recent Bollywood disappointments. With fearless female leads, entertaining performances, unapologetic frivolousness and a refreshing storyline, it’s a positive change in mainstream cinema.

It is an entertaining blend of glamour, friendship, and unexpected twists. While some jokes land better than others, the chemistry between the lead actresses keeps the audience engaged.

The film also deserves to be applauded for unapologetic portrayal of the wealthy robbing the nation, while three middle-class representatives seek to repay them in kind.
