The plot revolves around a jobless young man named Dodo, played by Divyenndu, who decides to fulfill his childhood dream of taking a trip to Goa. He is accompanied by his two NRI friends, Ayush and Pinku, portrayed by Avinash Tiwary and Pratik Gandhi respectively. Their journey begins with excitement and anticipation of the adventures that await them in Goa. However, their trip takes a wild turn when they encounter a series of mishaps on their train ride, the Madgaon Express.
As the story unfolds, the trio finds themselves embroiled in a chaotic series of events involving drugs, guns, and a gangster. They also cross paths with an all-female gang and find themselves being pursued by the police. The film is a laugh riot, with the characters finding themselves in the quirkiest of situations, escalating the comedy with each passing moment.
Madgaon Express: Performance
The performances are a standout aspect of the film, with Divyenndu shining as Dodo, the incorrigible bluffer. Pratik Gandhi steals the show every time his character mistakenly consumes cocaine, transforming from a timid mama’s boy into a fearless ‘Rambo’ for brief moments. Avinash Tiwary’s Ayush falls short when compared to Pinku and Dodo. Having said that, he gives the character his all.
Nora Fatehi plays yet another glam girl but unfortunately, her character is half-baked and it doesn’t leave much space for her to perform. Kunal is also seen in an irrelevant cameo but he cracks you up every time he appears. Remo D’Souza is seen in a full-fledged role as Dr Danny, who looks dapper and gets to do a little bit of action too.
The film’s supporting cast, Animal fame Upendra Limaye as Mendoza and Chaya Kadam as Kanchan Kombdi will grab all your attention every time they appear in frame. The ensemble cast delivers their lines with impeccable timing, contributing to the film’s humor.
Madgaon Express: Analysis
Kunal Kemmu, who also penned the script, has done a brilliant job with his brisk-paced storytelling and crisp dialogues. The screenplay is filled with scenes that oscillate between laugh-out-loud moments and gasp-inducing situations, keeping the audience engaged throughout.
The film pays homage to classics like “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,” while maintaining its unique flavor. As a first-time director, Kemmu has managed to balance the not-so-fun aspects of a trip gone awry with the raw emotions people often hide. His direction is said to capture the chaotic yet humorous essence of the story effectively.
Adil Afsar’s cinematography captures the essence of Goa, with eye-catching locations that complement the film’s lively spirit. The costumes seem to add another layer to the film’s comedic and visual appeal.
The music, composed by a team including Sharib-Toshi, Ankur Tewari, Kunal Kemmu, Sagar Desai, Sameer Uddin, and Ajay-Atul, is loud and weakest link in the film.
Overall, Madgaon Express seems to be a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and invites the audience to partake in its madness. It’s a blend of humor, chaos, and friendship, with technical aspects like cinematography, writing, direction, costume, and music all contributing to a fun-filled cinematic experience.
