The Sky Is Pink

Movie Review

The Sky Is Pink is a story that will connect the audience right from its beginning to the end. As it showcases the parental love of Aditi and Niren Chaudhary (played Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar), who has lost their 18-year-old daughter Aisha (played by Zaira Wasim).

The story begins with Aisha’s voice in the background which gives an emotional touch to the plot. She introduces us to her parents whom she fondly calls Panda and Moose and her older brother Ishaan whom she calls Giraffe. Aisha is born with SCID – Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, a genetic disorder. It gives out a tizzy of emotions, as the couple struggle to save their child and take her to London for treatment. Later they discover that Aisha’s treatment won’t last for a few months but years. The film is impressing more and more as the scene passes by and will not only bring a tear in your eyes but a smile on your lips. It will make us all strong and help us all to deal with loss and grief.

The strength of the couple and how they deal with the loss and still manage to stay together despite the several crises is what The Sky Is Pink is all about.

Writing:

It engages us and the narration of the story tells us about Niren and Aditi’s lives. The writer left no stones unturned to highlight every scene and has done the proper justice to the plot.

Direction:

Shonali Bose directorial has also taken us to the scene where we can see the beautiful chemistry of Niren and Aditi before marriage. The film teaches that life always gives a new experience, and strength to deal with challenges in a different way.

Music:

The music of the film adds to the story without being an obstacle to the smooth flow.

Technical Departments:

The camera and the art department has also done a good job. All the locations in the film totally connect with the characters and portray all emotions well. Also their look in the film, from being young to being a parent is just magical.

Performances:

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has played the character of the mother so well as she earlier did in the film Mary Kom. PeeCee proved that she is the perfect choice for Aditi’s character. Farhan Akhtar’s performance as Niren has made fans fall in love with him once again. He is sentimental and is a delight to watch on screen. Zaira Wasim as Aisha has done a wonderful job, both when she is on screen as well as when it is just her voice communicating with us. Rohit Saraf as Ishaan may not have a lot of screen time but he is unforgettable. Rest all the supporting characters are placed well.

Verdict:

Overall, The Sky Is Pink can be a weekend treat for you and your family.

Thumbs Up

  • Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zara Wasim shine with stellar acts
  • Story is heartwarming and touches the right chord especially with real life footage in the end
  • Direction brings out right emotions out and touches the right chords

Thumbs Down

  • Screenplay meanders at times and gets repetitive
  • Music fails to convey right pathos as Gulzar lyrics are too dry
  • Edit is at times too back and forth which dilutes emotions
