Films based on bald problems making news for last couple of months. After legal and media tussle, one of them (Ujda Chaman) hit the box office yesterday.
‘Ujda Chaman’ is directed by producer turned director Abhishek Pathak and has Sunny Singh as lead, his first solo film after PKP 2 and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’. Film opened in 1050 screens and it was right move to release a week before ‘Bala’.
Film has limited COP of 7 cr so it has not much box office pressure. Ujda Chaman opened to 20% opening which was decent and did decent in north where film is set. Film collected 2.35 cr nett on day one which is fair result considering it did double of ‘Made In China’ and triple of ‘Saand Ki Aankh’. This again emphasise importance of solo release rather than crowded festive release. Film had slim growth and collected 3.30 cr nett. Film added another 3.50 cr nett on Sunday with slim growth.
Film has three day total of 9.15 cr nett and now steady weekdays important for respectable lifetime total. ‘Ujda Chaman’ has limited appreciation and low face value but then budget is low too. At the moment it is heading for 14-15 cr nett lifetime/week one.
