Sajid Nadiadwala’s production banner ‘Nadiadwala Grandson’ has been grappling with a series of disappointments at the box office since the pandemic. With films like 83, Bachchan Pandey, Heropanti 2, and Chandu Champion failing to deliver, the spotlight is now on Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which could either mark a return to form or make things worse ahead.
Nadiadwala Grandson Is Yet To Deliver A Profitable HIT Post-Pandemic
83, despite receiving positive reviews and a strong cast led by Ranveer Singh, had a disastrous run at the box office. With a hefty budget of Rs 270 crore, it only managed Rs 109.02 crore in India nett collections.
The film’s release during the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in theatre restrictions, certainly limited its potential. However, some critics argue that its docu-drama style, focused more on realism than the masala appeal typically associated with Bollywood, didn’t resonate with mass audiences.
Then came Bachchan Pandey, a Rs 165 crore-budget film starring Akshay Kumar, which also flopped. The film, with its India nett collection of Rs 49.98 crore, was outshined by The Kashmir Files at the box office. Despite its star power, the film couldn’t connect with audiences due to a weak storyline and execution.
Heropanti 2, with a budget of Rs 70 crore, was another disaster for Nadiadwala Grandson. The film only made Rs 24.45 crore in India nett collections. Critics and audiences slammed the film for its poor screenplay, lacklustre dialogues, and weak plot. Despite being a part of a franchise, it failed to capture the magic of the first Heropanti film.
Chandu Champion, with a budget between Rs 70-140 crore, failed to make an impact as well, grossing Rs 62.95 crore in India nett collections. Despite Kartik Aaryan’s well-received performance, the film’s plot and limited appeal to wider audiences, especially in smaller towns, resulted in another flop.
Additionally, the film had to compete with Munjya, a horror-comedy that took away a major portion of the potential audience.
Other releases Tadap, Bawaal (OTT) & Satyaprem Ki Katha also failed to stand out.
| Film | Domestic Collection (in Nett) |
|---|---|
| 83 | ₹109.02 crore (Flop) |
| Tadap | ₹26.91 crore (Flop) |
| Heropanti 2 | ₹24.45 crore (Disaster) |
| Bachchan Pandey | ₹49.98 crore (Disaster) |
| Bawaal | Poor reviews on OTT |
| Satyaprem Ki Katha | ₹77.55 crore (Flop) |
| Chandu Champion | ₹62.95 crore (Flop) |
Will Sikandar Become Their 1st Hit After Pandemic?
Now, all eyes are on Sikandar, which is set to release in Eid 2025. The film has already created a massive buzz with its teaser, which hit 48 million views on YouTube within 24 hours. Salman Khan’s larger-than-life persona and the film’s thrilling action sequences have fans excited.
If the film can live up to the hype, Sikandar might just be the hit that Nadiadwala Grandson desperately needs.
With the film slated for a wide release, there is hope that Sikandar will break the dry spell and bring the production house back to success. But with a history of box-office misfires, can Salman Khan’s star power turn things around for Nadiadwala Grandson? The industry is watching, and only time will tell.
