Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson have given Verity a solid early foothold in India, with the Colleen Hoover adaptation pulling in Rs 3.50 crore in two days. The Hollywood thriller opened with Rs 1.89 crore across 510 shows and followed it with Rs 1.61 crore on day two, a steady hold that keeps the film firmly in the weekend conversation.
That matters for an English-language psychological thriller in India, where sustained urban turnout can shape a film’s entire theatrical trajectory. Verity has stayed steady at the right stage of its opening run. If that pace continues, the film stands a fair chance of closing its first weekend on a healthy note in India.
Cast, Crew And Story Details
Verity is based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel of the same name and features Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson in the lead. The adaptation brings one of Hoover’s most widely discussed books to the screen, turning a reader favourite into a theatrical psychological drama fronted by two recognisable stars.
The story follows a writer who enters an increasingly unsettling world after being given access to the unpublished material of a successful author. The premise leans into obsession, buried secrets and psychological unease, elements that gave the novel its strong following and now shape the film’s theatrical pitch.
Why The Star Pairing Matters In India
The film’s India run is being powered by more than just the popularity of the book. Hathaway and Johnson bring distinct audience familiarity that strengthens Verity’s appeal among English-language moviegoers, especially in metros where star-led Hollywood thrillers can find quick traction.
Hathaway’s recent releases include Eileen and She Came to Me in 2023, followed by The Idea of You in 2024. Johnson, meanwhile, starred in Madame Web and Daddio this year, keeping both performers in circulation ahead of Verity landing in theatres.
As the weekend continues, the key question is whether that combination of literary recognition and star pull can keep translating into ticket sales beyond the opening burst. For now, Verity has done enough in two days to remain one of the more closely watched English releases in the market.
