Awarapan 2 Roars At The Box Office With Rs. 23.40 Crore Day One, Emraan Hashmi Scores Career-Best Opening

Emraan Hashmi has stormed back into the theatrical spotlight with Awarapan 2, and the opening-day numbers have instantly put the film in the big league. The sequel has arrived with serious momentum, collecting an estimated Rs. 23.40 crore on Friday and handing Hashmi the biggest opening day of his career.

Film got boost due to franchise value, music of original film and immense hype surrounding the release. Now film is certain to jump big on tomorrow on national holiday and 75 crore plus next weekend is almost certain. It’s already a hit and now time will tell how big hit!

The start is particularly striking because Awarapan 2 walked into a competitive Independence Day weekend and still managed to stamp its authority at the ticket window from day one. Strong traction across national multiplex chains, combined with wider mass-market support, has given the film the kind of launch that can shape an entire box office run.

A Strong Start Sets The Tone

According to early trade estimates, Awarapan 2 opened in the Rs. 21 crore to Rs. 23 crore range on Friday, with the film now being pegged at Rs. 23.40 crore for day one. The business in the top three national chains is understood to be around Rs. 10 crore net, accounting for nearly half of the opening-day total.

That number is enough to position the Nitin Kakkar directorial as Emraan Hashmi’s career-best opener. It also puts the film on track for a robust first weekend, especially with the holiday corridor expected to boost footfalls further. The initial response suggests that audience nostalgia around the Awarapan brand, paired with a commercial action pitch, has translated into strong ticket sales right out of the gate.

The film also faced competition from Batwara, but Awarapan 2 clearly held the stronger edge on opening day despite the marketplace tussle over showcasing.

The Film Behind The Box Office Surge

Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar and stars Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani in the lead. The film is backed by Vishesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner and was released in theatres on August 14, 2026. The sequel follows the 2007 film Awarapan, with Hashmi returning to a title that has continued to enjoy recall over the years.

The new film has been mounted as an action drama, while retaining the emotional undercurrent associated with the franchise. That blend appears to have worked in its favour, especially on opening day when recall value alone is rarely enough without audience urgency.

Emraan Hashmi’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Before Awarapan 2, Emraan Hashmi was seen in Ae Watan Mere Watan in 2024, which released directly on Prime Video, and in the theatrical release Tiger 3 in 2023, where he played the antagonist opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. He was also part of Selfiee in 2023, co-starring Akshay Kumar, though that film underperformed at the box office.

On the upcoming front, Hashmi is also associated with Taskaree, a 2026 Netflix series that marks another notable addition to his slate. With Awarapan 2 delivering a career-best opening, the actor now finds himself in a phase where legacy, reinvention, and box office traction are all aligning at once.
