Biwi No. 1 Re-Release Proves To Be Box Office Washout, Fails To Cross Rs 10 Lakh On Day 1 Despite Cinema Lovers Day Offer

Biwi No. 1 re-release falls flat at the box office, earning just Rs 7 lakh on Day 1 despite the hype and discounted tickets.

The much-anticipated re-release of Biwi No. 1 has failed to meet expectations, earning just Rs 7 lakh on its opening day. Despite the nostalgia and excitement about its return to cinemas, the film couldn’t make a strong impact. The collection shows that the re-release didn’t capture the magic of its original success.

Biwi No. 1 Lags Behind Veer Zaara & Kal Ho Naa Ho In Re-Release

In comparison, other Bollywood classics like Kal Ho Naa Ho and Veer Zaara performed much better when they were re-released. Kal Ho Naa Ho, starring Shah Rukh Khan, earned Rs 12 lakh on its first day in 2023, while Veer Zaara made Rs 20 lakh in 2022.

Both films benefitted from Shah Rukh Khan’s huge fan following and the emotional bond his fans have with his films. Biwi No. 1, on the other hand, struggled, despite Salman Khan’s large fan base and the film’s nostalgic charm.

The disappointing performance of Biwi No. 1 raises concerns about the market for re-released films. While nostalgia and past success can generate some interest, it seems that not all classic films resonate with today’s audiences in the same way. Even with discounted ticket prices on Cinema Lovers Day, the excitement for Biwi No. 1 was not as high as other re-released films.

Will Industry Re-Think The Re-Release Strategy?

Released in 1999, Biwi No. 1, directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, was a massive success. Starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Anil Kapoor, and Tabu, the film earned Rs 52.80 crore worldwide. It was loved for its humour, catchy music, and star-studded cast, becoming one of the top comedies of the 90s.

However, despite Salman Khan promoting the film on social media, the excitement around its re-release didn’t match its original success. The low Day 1 collection suggests that the appeal of Biwi No. 1 may have faded, especially in an industry that’s constantly demanding new and fresh content.

This underperformance could lead to a rethink of the strategy of re-releasing older films. While some classics can still attract audiences, not every film has the lasting appeal it once did.
