Thalaivii, starring Kangana Ranaut, was released in theatres on Friday. The film received positive reviews from critics upon its release, however, this did not translated into box office numbers. The film had a poor opening weekend gross of Rs.1.25 crore. AL Vijay directed the film, which is based on the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s life.
One of the main reasons for Thalaivii’s poor box office performance is its low screen count, which is due to the refusal of major multiplex chains such as PVR Cinemas, INOX Leisure Ltd, and Cinepolis to screen the Hindi version of the film in North India.
Thalaivii took a jump on Saturday, grossing 1.80 crore, and continued to do so on Sunday. As a result, the film’s total collection is 4.85 cr nett.
Day 1, Friday: 1.25 cr nett
Day 2, Saturday: 1.80 cr nett
Day 3, Sunday: 1.80 cr nett
Total: 4.85 cr nett
The state government has yet to reopen cinema halls since the second Covid-19 wave, hence Thalaivii, like the recently released Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, Fast & Furious 9, Chehre, and BellBottom, was not released in Maharashtra.
