The movie directed by Mani Ratnam has been widely distributed amid much enthusiasm and anticipation. The second instalment of the epic two-part historical saga is anticipated to do well at the box office, even though the first movie went on to gross more than Rs 500 crore worldwide.
In the second episode of the epic drama that tells the story of the Chola Dynasty, actors Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and Vikram Prabhu among others repeat their roles. Film maintained well over weekend with equally good numbers on Saturday and Sunday in week one followed by equally good 2nd weekend.

The movie has been released in more than 3200 screens. Fans’ expectations were raised by PS-2’s release, and social media evaluations show how much they are enjoying the movie. The serial drama was dubbed a blockbuster by many, and some even compared it to SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2.
PS 1 collected 90 crore nett over weekend in Tamil Nadu and second part has collected 76 crore nett over weekend and 112 cr nett over week one. But still it’s a fair result for the film. There are only three films which have crossed 200 crore nett in Tamil Nadu (Enthiran, PS1, Vikram) and this can be fourth but still it has long way to go.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Crosses 310 Cr Gross Worldwide And 155 Cr Nett Domestic In 2nd Weekend:
The Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 2 held up well on weekdays and they collected 260 Crores Worldwide gross in 1st week. Film has taken a good start on 2nd Friday and collected 5.25 cr nett. Film jumped big over 2nd weekend and collected 8.75 cr nett in 2nd Saturday followed by 9.75 cr nett on 2nd Sunday. Film has crossed 150 cr nett in 10 days and crossed 300 cr worldwide gross today.
Film added 4.25 cr nett on 2nd Monday which was good hold and it means that film will cross 175 cr nett lifetime domestic for sure and 350 cr gross worldwide.
The top grossers in the state are the Pongal releases Thuniva and Varisu with 89 crore and 109 crore respectively so it should beat these two films. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is at 172 crore nett and is the all time record in the state and that is a tough task due to the weekend being less.

About Ponniyin Selvan 2
The film is based on the title novel by novelist Kalki. The early years of the Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who would go on to become the famed ruler Rajaraja I, are dramatised in the first portion of the movie. Numerous Tamil filmmakers have looked into making a movie based on the novel “Ponniyin Selvan” ever since it was published in 1955. However, due to lack of funds, it was never realised. Even Mani Ratnam tried unsuccessfully to adapt the book in the late 1980s and the early 2010s. Mani Ratnam restarted the project in January 2019, referring to it as his ideal project. The second installment, which debuted in theatres on April 28, followed the first part’s release in September 2022. PS-2’s soundtrack was composed by Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman.
