Hollywood Horror Film Nosferatu Crosses USD 50 Million At North America Box Office; Beats THIS 26-Year Old Record Of The Faculty

Nosferatu has crossed USD 50 million at the North American box office in just over a week, becoming the biggest Christmas horror opener in over 20 years.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has quickly emerged as a box-office success, crossing the USD 50 million mark in North America just over a week since its release. The American gothic horror film stars Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, and Lily-Rose Depp. It is a remake of the 1922 silent classic inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Since its release on Christmas Day, the film has proven to be a significant draw at the cinemas.

Nosferatu Earns USD 50 Million At NA Box Office By New Year

By New Year’s Eve, Nosferatu had earned an impressive USD 2.9 million, pushing its total earnings to around USD 50 million by January 1, 2025.

The film, which has received positive word-of-mouth, is showing strong mid-week stability. If it maintains this momentum, Nosferatu is projected to approach USD 100 million by the end of its theatrical run.

The film’s success highlights the enduring appeal of horror films in Hollywood. Horror movies tend to have relatively low production costs, making them highly profitable when they perform well at the box office. Nosferatu, with its gripping storyline and eerie atmosphere, is proving to be a profitable venture for the studios.

Films Also Biggest Opener For Horror Genre & Beats THIS 26-Year-Old Record

Additionally, Nosferatu has become the biggest Christmas opener in the horror genre. The film grossed USD 21.6 million in its opening weekend, surpassing the previous record held by The Faculty, which earned USD 11.6 million in 1998. This marks the first time in over two decades that a horror film has been released around Christmas, a date usually reserved for bigger studio releases in other genres.

Directed by Robert Eggers, the film has made waves not only for its financial success but also for the competition it faced at the box office. On its opening weekend, Nosferatu went head-to-head with A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold, which earned USD 11.5 million in its own debut.

Additionally, Nosferatu is facing stiff competition from other blockbuster films like Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa: The Lion King, Wicked, and Moana 2, all of which are also vying for audience attention in North America.
