This weekend brought three new Hollywood films to the Indian box office—How To Train Your Dragon, Ballerina, and Materialists. All three did well enough in various measures. How To Train Your Dragon Has Solid Weekend
The best performer is How To Train Your Dragon, which was up nearly 60% on Saturday, with a decent start on Friday. The animated film collected ₹2.25 crore, jumped up to ₹3.60 crore on Saturday and ₹4 crore on Sunday, and posted a ₹9.85 crore net three-day weekend total.
The film should have a very comfortable net of ₹10 crore by the end of Sunday.
Ballerina Does Very Steady, John Wick Brand Seems To Help
Ana de Armas’ action-packed Ballerina saw modest, though steady traction; the fact that it is in the John Wick universe seemed to help. Ballerina took ₹2.35 crore on opening day (including previews) followed by ₹2.80 crore on Saturday and ₹2.50 crore on Sunday, for a three-day net total of ₹7.65 crore.
It is forecasted to finish its lifetime with approximately ₹15 crore net, which is a fair number given the genre and lack of buzz.
Materialists Gains From Weak Start
Materialists, starring Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal, got off to a slow start with ₹55 lakh on opening day, but by the power of word of mouth, it saw a large improvement on day two, posting ₹1.15 crore on Saturday and Sunday each for a three-day total of ₹2.85 crore net.
This is a fair result for the genre and film will be in cinemas for few weeks with 7-8 crore net lifetime total on cards.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
All in all, the trio of Hollywood releases brought some variety and decent foot traffic to Indian cinemas this weekend. While How To Train Your Dragon took flight with family-friendly content, Ballerina came out with franchise strength, and Materialists gained goodwill via its cast and content.
With a combined weekend net around ₹22 crore, while the local biggies like Housefull 5 still running, the Hollywood weekend is a success.
