Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday’s historical courtroom drama, Kesari Chapter 2, released in theatres on 19th April.
The film stars Akshay Kumar as legendary lawyer C. Sankaran Nair and explores the untold story behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The incident, which occurred on April 13, 1919, during the festival of Baisakhi in Amritsar, is considered one of the darkest chapters in India’s colonial history.
Thousands had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to peacefully protest against the Rowlatt Act and demand the release of leaders Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew. British officer Brigadier General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to open fire on the unarmed crowd without warning.
Kesari Holds Solid With 6.15 Crore Net In 4th Week
Film collected on 75 lac net on 4th Friday followed by 1.20 crore net on 4th Saturday with decent jumps. Film collected 1.72 crore net on 4th Sunday which is decent trend despite competition at box office. Film scored 3.67 crore net over 4th weekend.
Film added 72 lacs net on 4th Monday, 68 lacs on 4th Tuesday, 58 lacs net on 4th Wednesday and 50 lacs net on 4th Thursday. Film held solid in 4th week with less than 35% drop from previous week and collected 6.15 crore net.
Film has total of 90.55 crore net and now it has emerged a clean hit. is almost certain to cross 93 crore net India with solid hold over subsequent weeks. Film has also crossed 140 crore worldwide gross milestone.
Kesari Scored 9 Crore In 3rd Week
Film added 1.70 crore net on 3rd Friday followed by 2.10 crore net on 3rd Saturday and 2.30 crore net on 3rd Sunday. After collecting 6.10 crore net over 3rd weekend, film collected 90.5 crore net in 3rd week with steady numbers on weekdays though on lower levels due to competition from Raid 2 and ongoing war situations in India.
Kesari 2 Crossed 28.81 Crore In 2nd Week
Film collected 4.05 crore net on 2nd Friday and thus crossed 50 crore net on day 8 aided by Big One Get One Free offer. As expected, film jumped big 80% on 2nd Saturday and collected 7.20 crore net. Film again grew on 2nd Sunday and added 8.14 crore net. After 19.39 crore net 2nd weekend, film held well on 2nd Monday and collected 2.65 crore net aided with BOGO offer.
Film added 2.72 crore net on 2nd Tuesday followed by 2.25 crore net on 2nd Wednesday and 1.80 crore on 2nd Thursday. Film collected 28.81 crore in 2nd week which is less than 40% drop from week one.
Kesari 2 Crossed 46.54 Crore In 1st Week
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2opened on a decent note at the box office on Friday. It collected Rs 7.84 crore on the first day of its release. Film collected 4.50 crore in top three national chains which was 60% of all India business. Film did well in pockets like Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Delhi but most of the areas still need improvement.
The Good Friday holiday benefitted the movie on day one in some way. But film received acceptance from audience in big way as film grew by 30% that too post holiday which in a way 70% growth. Film collected 10.08 crore net on day two. Film jumped by 45% in Nizam, West Bengal and central India. It almost doubled its numbers in Kerala due to local factor as C Shankaran Nair was from Kerala.
Film continued to grow on day three and collected 11.70 crore net. Film jumped by 50% in West Bengal, Nizam and Punjab. This weekend trajectory tells about acceptance of the film. Film collected 29.62 crore net over the weekend.
Film held solid on Monday and collected 4.50 crore net. This is super hold considering day one was aided by holiday. Film continued to grow riding on good word of mouth and ₹ 99 gave it impetus on day 5 Tuesday as it collected 5.04 crore net. Film collected 3.78 crore net on day 6 followed by 3.60 crore net on day 7.
Film has 1st week total of 46.54 crore net which was a fair result.

Certified ‘A—Adult Only’ by the Central Board Of Film Certification, the recently released movie has received strong buzz and positive word of mouth among cinephiles. Also starring R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, the courtroom drama is an adaptation of a book titled The Case That Shook The Empire.
Kesari Chapter 2, which is jointly backed by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, has the potential to register a good opening weekend.
Set against the backdrop of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kesari Chapter 2 is locking horns with the holdover release, Jaat, at the box office. Both the movies have different target audiences. It is yet to be determined if Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan’s movie can sustain itself well in the coming days.
It marks the spiritual sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2019 release, Kesari, which was based on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi.
