Obsession Box Office: Hollywood Horror Hit Records 110 Percent Jump On Second Saturday, Crosses 28 Crore In India

Hollywood’s sleeper horror sensation Obsession is refusing to slow down at the Indian box office. After opening without the cushion of a massive franchise brand or A-list star, Curry Barker’s supernatural horror film has turned into one of the strongest theatrical surprises of the season, and its second Saturday jump has now put the trade on notice.

The film collected Rs 6.90 crore nett on its second Saturday in India, rising by a massive 110 percent from its second Friday figure of Rs 3.30 crore nett. With this, Obsession has reached Rs 28.50 crore nett in nine days, while its India gross stands at Rs 34.20 crore.

Obsession Records Huge Second Saturday Growth

The latest India trend is particularly significant because horror films often tend to be front-loaded, especially after the opening weekend. Obsession, however, has gone the other way. Its first week total stood at Rs 18.30 crore nett, and the second weekend has now pushed the film into breakout territory.

The film has also emerged as the third highest-grossing Hollywood release of 2026 in India so far, behind Project Hail Mary and Michael. Given the second-weekend momentum, Obsession is tracking like a clear word-of-mouth winner, with a Rs 75 crore lifetime finish in India looking firmly within reach if the current pace sustains through weekdays.

Its global story has been just as dramatic. The film, produced on a modest budget, has become one of the year’s most profitable horror titles. Lisa Bunnell, head of distribution at Focus Features, summed up the repeat-viewing wave around the film when she said, “We’re hearing of people going to see the movie three and four times. It’s skewing a little more male, but it’s getting more women as we move on.”

She also said, “The movie has been outperforming any comps,” adding, “At this point, we’re optimistic of what’s going to happen but don’t have a set number in mind because it’s gone way beyond expectations.”

What Obsession Is About

Obsession is written, edited and directed by Curry Barker in his feature directorial debut. The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear and Inde Navarrette as Nikki, with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter in supporting roles. Jason Blum is associated with the film as an executive producer under the Blumhouse Productions banner, while Focus Features handled the theatrical release in North America.

The film follows a hopeless romantic who breaks a mysterious supernatural toy called the “One Wish Willow” in the hope of winning his crush’s love. What begins as a wish-fulfilment fantasy quickly spirals into a sinister nightmare as desire turns dangerous.

After releasing in the United States on May 15, 2026, Obsession arrived in Indian theatres on May 29, 2026. As of June 7, 2026, the film is not just holding well, it is actively expanding its theatrical footprint through audience demand.
