Pushpa 2 has officially dethroned RRR to become India’s biggest worldwide opener, setting a new record with an estimated gross of approximately Rs 260 crore on its opening day.
The much-anticipated sequel to Pushpa: The Rise (2021) hit theatres on December 5. Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil. The film’s impressive opening proves its massive appeal, as it surpassed the previous record-holder, RRR (2022), directed by SS Rajamouli.
Released on 12,000 screens across India, Pushpa 2 was initially planned for a 3D release, but delays in post-production led to the cancellation of the 3D version. However, the film still saw a massive turnout in 2D and 4DX formats. It was released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, with a production budget of approximately Rs 500 crore.
Pushpa 2 Shatters Box Office Records On Its Opening Day Itself
The film’s opening day collections have cemented its place in history. Pushpa 2 earned an estimated Rs 190 crore domestically and an additional Rs 69-70 crore internationally, bringing its total worldwide gross to Rs 260 crore.
This is a significant achievement, as it surpassed the opening day earnings of RRR, which had grossed Rs 224 crore. The high occupancy rates for the film, particularly in Telugu, where it reached 82.66%, further highlight the film’s popularity. Experts predict that the earnings will continue to rise throughout the weekend.
