With three days still to go, Ramayana has already turned its opening day booking into a major box office event. The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer has raced past 1.70 lakh tickets in the top national chains, instantly pushing itself into the race for 2026’s biggest opening among non-sequel films.
The film has sold around 1.40 lakh tickets at PVR INOX and another 30,000 at Cinepolis so far, taking its combined total in the national multiplex chains to 1.70 lakh. That kind of start has placed Ramayana among the strongest advance booking performers of the year, with momentum still firmly on its side ahead of release.
Latest Advance Booking Update
The current national chain tally places Ramayana ahead of Border 2, which closed its advance sales around 1.45 lakh tickets, and comfortably above Mirzapur The Movie, Awarapan 2, Bhooth Bangla, Cocktail 2, and Welcome To The Jungle. Among 2026 releases, only Dhurandhar The Revenge, Drishyam The Conclusion, and Toxic remain ahead on the broader advance sales list.
Just as significantly, the pace has sharpened in the final pre-release stretch. The film was at 1.50 lakh tickets earlier and has now crossed 1.70 lakh with three days still in hand, giving it a powerful day one base and strengthening its shot at the biggest non-sequel start of the year. Film Details And Release Positioning
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is a two-part mythological epic adapted from the ancient Indian scripture. The first part stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Yash as Ravana, with Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey and Sunny Deol in key roles. The film is backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, Monster Mind Creations and DNEG, with Yash also attached as producer.
The first installment premiered at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 27, 2026, and is scheduled for its worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, in the Diwali corridor. It arrives as a large-scale theatrical event with franchise ambition, premium format support and a cast combination built for pan-India reach. That scale is now clearly feeding into the booking rush, with audience curiosity and star power converting into tangible advance sales.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
For Ranbir Kapoor, Ramayana comes at a time when his theatrical pull remains strong after Animal and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, both released in 2023. Animal became the biggest box office success of his career, and that post-2023 momentum is now adding extra weight to Ramayana as it heads toward release. Instead of functioning as just another big-budget spectacle, the film is benefiting from the sustained audience draw Kapoor has built over his last theatrical cycle.
