The action thriller, which arrived carrying the recall value of a successful first film and the pull of a star-led spy setup, has managed only Rs 17.75 crore gross in India across its first eight days, an underwhelming start for a film positioned as a mainstream theatrical event.
The day-wise trend underlines how quickly the film lost pace. After opening day, it collected Rs 2.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 3.00 crore on Day 3, before moving to Rs 2.75 crore on Day 4, Rs 2 crore on Day 5, Rs 1.00 crore on Day 6, Rs 90 lakh on Day 7, and just Rs 60 lakh on Day 8.
First Week Trend Turns Weak
For a franchise title, the concern is not simply the total but what that total represents commercially. Sardar 2 did not find the kind of weekend surge or weekday hold that usually keeps a sequel in contention after its opening. Instead, its first-week trajectory has left it with little margin for recovery going into the crucial second weekend.
Tamil Nadu remained the film’s biggest market with Rs 9.75 crore in eight days. The Telugu states contributed Rs 5.25 crore, Karnataka added Rs 2 crore, and the rest of India brought in Rs 75 lakh. That spread shows the film did open across key southern circuits, but the overall response was not strong enough to translate into a more stable run.
With theatrical competition intensifying and audience attention shifting quickly, the film now faces a far tougher road ahead. That makes the result more striking because Sardar 2 did not arrive as a modest follow-up, but as a sequel that had genuine commercial expectation behind it.

The story follows Vijay Prakash, also known as Viji, and Chandra Bose, also known as Sardar, as they take on Black Dagger and the threat of a hidden biochemical weapon called Doku. With a built-in franchise base, a spy-action premise and a broad commercial cast, the film entered theatres with stronger pre-release weight than its first-week total now reflects.

Karthi has been moving through a packed theatrical stretch in recent years, balancing commercial vehicles with films that leaned more on character-driven appeal. That run included releases such as Japan, Meiyazhagan, Kanguva and Vaa Vaathiyaar before Sardar 2 reached theatres on September 10, 2026. In that context, the sequel was expected to be a more emphatic box office play within his current phase, especially because it returned him to an established franchise space.
