Thaai Kizhavi Crosses Rs 50 Crore Worldwide In 10 Days As Sivakarthikeyan Productions Celebrates The Sleeper Hit

A Tamil film with no marquee male superstar at its centre has flipped the usual box office math on its head. Thaai Kizhavi, a rooted rural drama led by Radikaa Sarathkumar, has surged past the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide in just 10 days, powered by strong word of mouth and a growing chorus of industry endorsements.

Released in theatres on February 27, Thaai Kizhavi has been positioned as a star vehicle for performance rather than spectacle, with Radikaa playing Pavunuthaayi, an elderly moneylender whose iron grip over her wealth sparks a vicious family tug of war.

Sivakarthikeyan Productions Confirms The Rs 50 Crore Milestone

The latest update came straight from Sivakarthikeyan Productions on X on March 9, 2026, where the banner announced the film had crossed “₹50 Crores+ Worldwide GBOC in just 10 days.” The post added, “Overwhelmed by the incredible love and support from everywhere. Thank you for making it a megablockbuster, Thaai Kizhavi.”

The announcement is significant not just for the number, but for what it signals. Thaai Kizhavi is driven by a women-led narrative and a cast of seasoned character actors, bucking the trend that only heavily frontloaded star films can post such fast, headline-making milestones.

What Thaai Kizhavi Is About, And Who Backs It

Written and directed by Sivakumar Murugesan in his feature debut, Thaai Kizhavi is produced by Sivakarthikeyan and Sudhan Sundaram under Sivakarthikeyan Productions and Passion Studios. The supporting cast includes Singampuli, Aruldoss, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, Ilavarasu, George Maryan, and Vettai Muthukumar.

Thaai Kizhavi follows the story of a 70-year-old woman, Pavunuthayi, a powerful and arrogant matriarch in a village who works as a ruthless moneylender. Known for her bold and independent nature, she leads a distant life from her children. However, when Pavunuthayi encounters a troubling incident, her sons return home, reopening old wounds and unearthing a chaotic family dynamic. The film explores the impact of these events on the family and the villagers.

The Film’s Praise Wave Keeps Getting Louder

The film’s momentum has been amplified by prominent voices from the industry praising it publicly. Director Shankar called it “so damn wholesome,” adding that the film becomes “deeply moving” in the second half and credited the writing and performances, saying, “We all know @realradikaa‘s prowess as an actor, but this film truly takes it up yet another notch.”

Director Atlee, too, urged audiences to watch it in theatres, writing, “In a world that feels heavy at times, this film felt like hope. Emotional, meaningful, and rooted in the best of human values.”
