The Diplomat Box Office Collection Day 14: John Abraham’s Spy Thriller Crosses 30 Crore After 2nd Week, Heading For Decent Under 35 Crore Lifetime Finish

John Abraham’s latest film, The Diplomat, arrived in cinemas on 14 March 2025. Directed by Shivam Nair, this political thriller dives into India-Pakistan relations, focusing on a tense diplomatic mission.

Despite its gripping premise and a Holi release, the film failed to create a strong opening impact at the box office.

The Diplomat Manages To Stay Afloat In 2nd Week

The film relied on word-of-mouth to gain momentum. It started with Rs 4.03 crore on day one, surpassing initial expectations of Rs 2 crore. However, the growth remained slow over the weekend. Saturday saw a modest 15% increase, bringing in Rs 4.68 crore.

On Sunday, the upward trend continued slightly, with Rs 4.74 crore. By the end of its first weekend, The Diplomat had earned Rs 13.45 crore in India. The film faced a crucial test on Monday and collected 1.53 crore net with 37% drop from Friday. Film remained steady on Tuesday though on low levels and collected similar 1.51 crore net followed by 1.52 crore net on Wednesday and 1.44 crore net on Thursday.

Film collected 19.45 crore net in first week which was below par.

Film got advantage due to failures of new releases and managed to stay afloat. Film dropped only slightly from day 7 and collected 1.27 crore net on 2nd Friday. Film jumped by almost 100% on 2nd Saturday and collected 2.52 crore net. Film scores 2.74 crore net on 2nd Sunday taking 2nd weekend to 6.53 crore. Film remained steady on weekdays but on low levels and collected 10.68 crore net in 2nd week.

Film has total of 30.13 crore net and that’s an average total. Now it has chance of crossing 35 crore net lifetime which is decent number but some sort of number after such a low opening.

About The Film

Unlike high-octane action thrillers, The Diplomatleans towards realism, focusing on tense negotiations and legal challenges. The story is inspired by Uzma Ahmed, who was trapped in a forced marriage in Pakistan and sought refuge at the Indian Embassy. John Abraham plays J.P. Singh, the diplomat who leads the mission to bring her home.

John delivers a restrained yet powerful performance, stepping away from his usual action-hero image. Sadia Khateeb brings emotional depth to Uzma’s role, while Revathy, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi add weight to the narrative.

With positive word-of-mouth, the film still has a chance to stabilise at the box office. However, its weekday collections will determine its long-term fate. If it fails to hold steady, the road ahead could be challenging.

The Diplomat is currently playing in cinemas.
