James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water Is Set To Surpass $1 Billion Mark Worldwide In Its 2nd Week; May Become 3rd Highest-Grossing Film Of 2022. Details Inside!

Avatar: The Way of Water, which was released globally on December 16, has been nominated for two awards at next year's Golden Globes.

Directed by James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water grossed $955 million worldwide by its second Monday. Despite being the collection below expectation in its opening weekend, it is all set to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office in just 12 days since its release on December 16.

The 2009 sequel Avatar: The Way of Water is turning out to be a big box office success worldwide. However, James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) still holds the record for the highest-grossing film of all time.

As the film has made $955 million by its second Monday, ‘Deadline’ reported that the film will hit the billion mark by the end of Tuesday. If the reports are true then Avatar: The Way of Water will surpass the box office collection of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($955 million) and become the third-highest-grossing movie of the year.

Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion are in the first and second position. While it took 31 days for Top Gun: Maverick to cross the $1 billion mark, Jurassic World Dominion reached the mark at more than four months.

The sequel has been released 13 years after the 2009 original film. It features Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Colonel Quaritch (Steven Lang) in lead roles while also starring Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco and Jemaine Clement.

Avatar: The Way of Water, which was released globally on December 16, has been nominated for two awards at next year’s Golden Globes. In India, the film has been released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
