As a result of the great popularity of “Schitt’s Creek,” Dan Levy has become a sought-after celeb in Hollywood, and he is now the latest celebrity to sign on with Netflix. Levy just secured a “first look feature contract” as well as an overall arrangement for scripted content, according to Deadline, “under which he’ll write and produce.”
The first film under his new contract, however, will be a romantic comedy in which he will write, direct, produce, and star. The new contract will begin in July 2022, when his current three-year overall arrangement with ABC Signature expires.
“Netflix offered ‘Schitt’s Creek’ a second home at just the right time and opened the doors to a whole new audience for us. Watching the show thrive there has only enhanced my excitement about continuing to tell specific, meaningful stories with them in both TV and feature film,” said Levy in a statement. “A full circle moment.”
Scott Stuber, who is Netflix head of global film, and Bela Bajaria, head of global series, in a joint statement were quoted by Deadline, “Dan Levy is an incredible all-around creative talent, who thoughtfully approaches every story with a meaningful perspective. His work on ‘Schitt’s Creek’ charmed audiences around the world and we’re thrilled to partner and create new films and shows with Dan.”
Meanwhile, Levy has three live-action films in the works for ABC Signature, as well as the animated comedy “Standing By” for Hulu, prior to the start of his new deal next year.
