Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, broke the previous record set by Stranger Things to become the English-language Netflix series with the biggest opening. The Hollywood Reporter noted that, according to internal Netflix data, the Addams Family spinoff garnered 341.2 million hours of streaming last week. As the best week for any English-language series on the streamer, that surpasses the 335 million hours for Stranger Things 4 during the week of May 30-June 5.
Wednesday shared the top spot with Stranger Things 4 in 83 nations for the week. According to the study, Netflix calculates that over 50 million households worldwide watched at least a portion of the show by dividing the total number of hours seen by the season’s approximate six-hour runtime.
For the week of September 27–3, 2021, South Korean hit thriller Squid Game maintained its all-time high on Netflix with 571.76 million hours watched. The Jeffrey Dahmer Story never, Netflix’s second big blockbuster this year, brought in over 299 million in a single week.
Speaking of Wednesday, the programme is billed as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery” that will follow Wednesday as she makes her way through life at the boarding school for misfits Nevermore Academy.
The teen “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore,” as per the synopsis.
