In a recent development, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has suspended two of its officers from the Mumbai zonal unit. According to the reports, the officers have a suspicious role of allegedly helping two accused in the ongoing drugs probe in securing bail.
The two are from the Investigation Officers (IO) in the cases registered against comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya and that of the manager of actress Deepika Padukone, Karishma Prakash.
Along with the two officers, NCB’s prosecutor is also under the scanner. According to the information, during the bail hearing in the two cases, the investigating officers along with the public prosecutor were missing, following which the bail was granted to the accused in both the cases.
On October 27, following information from an arrested drug peddler NCB conducted searches at the residence of Karishma Prakash. Though Prakash wasn’t present at the residence when the search happened, it was conducted by NCB officials in the presence of Prakash’s neighbors and 1.7 grams of hashish was recovered. Prakash was served with a summon and a case was registered against him.
