This year marks 50 years since the Emergency, a pivotal and controversial chapter in India’s political history. During these 21 months, democracy was suspended, fundamental rights were curbed, and the nation faced an unparalleled constitutional crisis.
As the anniversary looms, Kangana Ranaut is set to unveil her latest project, Emergency, on 17 January 2025.
Kangana Ranaut Prepares For The Release Of Emergency
The film dives deep into this dark yet transformative era, shedding light on the key figures and events that shaped it. Kangana, who also directs the film, aims to spark dialogue around the complexities of this tumultuous time.
Despite the anticipation, fans have noted the lack of promotional material ahead of the release. Social media is abuzz with demands for a new trailer, with many eager for a glimpse into the film’s portrayal of history.
Kangana had addressed the delays, confirming that the movie had cleared its final hurdle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The clearance, granted in October, came after the filmmakers made three edits and backed up any contentious historical claims with credible sources.
About The Film
This is Kangana’s second directorial venture after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. She announced the new release date in November, following several postponements.
Speaking about the challenges of bringing such a sensitive story to life, Kangana said, “This is not just a film; it’s a piece of history that deserves to be remembered and discussed.”
Emergency boasts a stellar cast, with Anupam Kher portraying Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Their performances are complemented by an evocative score from Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar.
The film has been produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti.
