The 70th National Film Awards were announced on Friday, August 16, recognising the best in Indian cinema from 2022. Kantara and KGF Chapter 2 were the biggest winners of the night, reflecting their outstanding impact on the film industry.
Kantara, KGF2, Brahmastra & Others Win Big At 70th National Film Awards
Kantara took home the prestigious Best Picture award, with Rishab Shetty winning Best Actor for his role in the film. The Best Kannada Film accolade went to KGF Chapter 2, highlighting its success in the Kannada film industry. Gulmohar clinched the Best Hindi Film award, showcasing its strong presence in Hindi cinema.
In acting categories, Nithya Menon and Maansi Paarekh shared the Best Actress award, while Sooraj R Barjatya was honoured as Best Director for his film Uunchai. Neena Gupta and Pawan Malhotra were recognised as Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
On the music front, Pritam was awarded Best Music Director for his work on Brahmastra. AR Rahman won Best Background Music for Ponniyin Selvan 2, with Anand Krishnamurthy receiving Best Sound Design for the same film. Arijit Singh was named Best Playback Singer Male for Brahmastra, which also secured the Best VFX Award.
