Aamir Khan is preparing to turn nostalgia into a full blown industry reunion as Lagaan and Aamir Khan Productions reach a landmark silver jubilee. The actor, producer and studio founder will host a grand celebration on June 13 in Mumbai, bringing together the people who helped shape one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished modern classics.
The timing makes the moment especially significant. Lagaan released on June 15, 2001, and also marked the beginning of Aamir Khan Productions. Twenty five years later, the film remains a defining title for the banner, not just as its first production, but as the film that announced its creative identity with scale, conviction and emotional sweep.
The Lagaan Celebration On June 13
The June 13 gathering will see the cast and crew of Lagaan reunite ahead of the film’s 25th anniversary. The celebration is also being planned as a wider Aamir Khan Productions family reunion, with actors, technicians, filmmakers and creative collaborators associated with the banner’s films over the years expected to attend.
The anniversary celebrations are not limited to the private gathering. Aamir Khan Productions has also announced a theatrical return for Lagaan across June 12, 13 and 14. The official announcement read, “A timeless epic that touched every heart. On the 25th Anniversary of LAGAAN, the epic saga returns to the big screen. Relive the magic in theatres on 12th, 13th and 14th June.”
Fans have also been invited to join the celebrations through the #LagaanPosterChallenge, where they can recreate the iconic poster of the film for a chance to attend a special screening with members of the cast and crew.
Aamir recently reflected on the milestone, saying, “As ‘Lagaan’ completes 25 years, it’s hard to put into words what this journey has meant. We made the film with a lot of belief, passion and honesty, never imagining the kind of love it would receive and continue to receive all these years later. I’m truly delighted that this milestone is being celebrated with a screening at the BFI. To see ‘Lagaan’ still connect with audiences across generations and across geographies is very special”.
Why Lagaan Still Holds Its Place In Hindi Cinema
Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Lagaan starred Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne, with music by A. R. Rahman. Produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions, the period sports drama followed the villagers of Champaner as they challenged British officers to a cricket match to escape oppressive taxation.
The film earned widespread acclaim, became a commercial success with estimated worldwide earnings of ₹65.97 crore during its initial run, and won eight National Film Awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. It also became the third Indian film to receive an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Aamir Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Aamir Khan’s recent screen and production journey has continued to stay closely tied to Aamir Khan Productions. He starred in and produced Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, produced Laapataa Ladies in 2024, and followed it with Sitaare Zameen Par in 2025. In 2026, the banner released Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, featuring Aamir in a special appearance, and Ek Din, starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan. The production house is also associated with Batwara 1947, listed among its 2026 projects.
