Laapataa Ladies BEATS Animal On OTT

According to a report by Binged, while Laapataa Ladies has surpassed Animal, it has yet to overtake Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, which currently holds 14 million views.

The growing popularity of Laapataa Ladies has sparked conversations on social media platforms like Reddit. One user shared the news and encouraged others to watch the film, noting its popularity in the UK.

“It’s become very popular in the UK. All my local friends loved it. They have only watched movies like Bahubali. So proud when they talk about Laapataa Ladies,” wrote one user.

Another added, “That’s good. This movie deserves all the attention.”

The success of Laapataa Ladies comes amid a backdrop of a public spat between Kiran Rao and Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Earlier this year, during an interview with The Quint, Kiran Rao denied commenting on Vanga’s films, stating she has never watched them. “I have never commented on Mr Sandeep’s films because I have never seen them. I have often spoken on misogyny and the representation of women on screen. I have talked about it on various platforms at various times. But I have never taken the name of any film because it is not about the specific film. Why Mr Vanga has assumed that I was talking about his film you’ll have to ask him. I have never seen his film,” she said.

Vanga responded to Rao’s remarks in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, criticising her understanding of his films. “My AD showed me an article. It is of the second ex-wife of a superstar. She is saying that films like Bahubaali 2 and Kabir Singh promote misogyny and stalking. I think she does not know the difference between stalking and approaching. When people read these things out of context, they tend to agree. This is entirely wrong,” he argued.

About Laapataa Ladies

Released on March 1, Laapataa Ladies is produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande and is an adaptation of Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel. The film, directed by Kiran Rao, features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in lead roles. Set in rural India in 2001, the story revolves around two brides who get exchanged during a train journey, leading to a series of twists and turns as their husbands search for the real brides.

Laapataa Ladies explores sensitive social issues set against a backdrop of rural India, where discrimination is a daily reality. Set in a time when mobile phones were a luxury, the film delves into societal norms that treat women as objects, highlighting the prevalent dogmatism.

In a landscape dominated by commercial films, Laapataa Ladies and other socially relevant films like 12th Fail are making a significant impact in the industry.
