Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai worked together for the first time in Atrangi Re (2021) and then Rakshabandhan (2022). However, their association did not generate any success for either of them. In a recent interview, Aanand L Rai revealed that he and Akshay are planning to work on more stories together.

Aanand L Rai also shared how his friendship with Akshay Kumar developed over the years. He said that it was the story that introduced them and then their middle class bond brought them together. “It’s always the story that introduces an actor and a director with each other,” he said. “So, it all started with a story. After that, I feel, two middle-class guys bonded with each other. Maybe that is one reason. I always say that I have been able to understand the Raju inside Akshay Kumar and maybe he understood the Anu inside me. Hum log kitni kahaniyaan saath kar rahen hain (We are doing a lot of stories together). In your lifespan if you find people who understand you and you understand them, then it goes beyond stories and films. So, it feels good that you have your people around you.”

When asked whether the two of them would join hands for the third time, Rai said, “I am working on stories. The day I would be fully sure that this story will be good for Akshay Kumar, and he will enjoy working on it and I will be able to give something interesting to him then we will do. It can happen in six months, one year or one month.”
Atrangi Re was a romantic comedy that featured Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush in the lead roles. The film was written by Himanshu Sharma and had music by A.R. Rahman.
Rakshabandhan is wad family drama that revolves around the bond between a brother and his sisters. Akshay Kumar played the role of the brother, while Bhumi Pednekar played his love interest.
Both Rakshabandhan and Atrangi Re failed to generate any impact. Currently, Aanand L Rai is enjoying the success of his Marathi production Jhimma 2, which is also produced by Jio Studios and Chalchitra Mandalee.
