August will be a month filled with sequels in the Bollywood film industry. On August 11, the much-awaited Gadar 2, featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, will hit the screens. There is a possibility that OMG Oh My God 2 might also release on the same Friday if its censor issues are resolved in time, aiming to capitalize on the Independence Day mid-week holiday. Following that, on August 25, audiences can look forward to the release of Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday. Notably, the makers of Ghoomer, a mid-sized film, have decided to take their chances and release their movie in August as well.
Mark Your Calendar: Ghoomer Movie Releases August 18
According to a reliable source, the movie Ghoomer, featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, and Shabana Azmi, is set to hit theaters on August 18. The film is directed by R Balki and will have a traditional cinema release. An official announcement about the release is expected soon, followed by a concise yet impactful marketing campaign. While details about the film’s distribution are yet to be revealed, insiders claim that all arrangements have been taken care of, and the makers are confident about securing a considerable number of screens despite the competition from other major releases in August.
Ghoomer: A Tale of Inspiration and Perseverance in Cricket
Ghoomer revolves around the inspiring story of a female cricketer who, despite facing an injury, remains determined to pursue her dream. With unwavering determination, she learns to play the sport using her left hand. Abhishek Bachchan takes on the role of her coach, becoming the driving force behind the physically challenged cricketer’s journey towards becoming a champion. Shabana Azmi portrays Saiyami Kher’s cricket-passionate grandmother, adding depth to the film’s narrative. Alongside them, Angad Bedi also stars in the movie. Additionally, the film features a special cameo appearance by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, who shares a strong bond with director R Balki. Having collaborated on several projects before, such as Ki & Ka (2016), Pad Man (2018), and Chup (2022), Amitabh Bachchan has shown his support for Balki’s work, even in films where he wasn’t the lead. Furthermore, Abhishek Bachchan has previously worked with R Balki in the acclaimed film Paa (2009).
Prior to its theatrical release, Ghoomer is set to have its premiere in Australia. The film has been honored with the prestigious position of being the opening film for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), which is scheduled to commence on August 11.
