There were rumours going around that actress Rekha from the 1970s will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi’ a long time back. The rumours, however, were shortly refuted by claims that Rekha would not be appearing in the series.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Despite the actress’ lack of interest in appearing in the series, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is still trying to request and cast the actress for a special song sequence in his movie.
A reliable source told Bollywood Hungama, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted Rekha to play a prominent role in ‘Heeramandi’. However, the actress was reluctant to feature in the series and talks between the two soon fell apart. However, SLB has not given up the idea of having Rekha featured in ‘Heeramandi’. As it stands right now, Bhansali is still in talks with Rekha but this time for a much smaller part.” While asking more details about what filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has prepared for the actress and the source replied, “Currently, Bhansali is in talks with Rekha to feature in a special song sequence at least. He is adamant on having Rekha feature in ‘Heeramandi’ even if it for a small part.”
The show will examine the cultural reality of ‘Heeramandi’, a glamorous district, while discussions between the two parties are ongoing. It will do this by telling the tales of courtesans and their clients against the turbulent backdrop of the 1940s Indian freedom struggle.
‘Heeramandi’ promises Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s signature style of larger-than-life stories, intricate and soulful characters, and rippling dynamics of a world rife with conflict during a defining time period for India. It’s a mix of love, betrayal, succession, and politics in the house of courtesans. The web series stars renowned actress Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Sheikh.
