Aditya Chopra, the producer of the 2019 blockbuster War, has confirmed that he is planning to release the sequel to the film on Republic Day 2025. War, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff as rival agents, was the highest-grossing Indian film of 2019, earning over ₹475 crore worldwide. The film was directed by Siddharth Anand, who also helmed the recent hit Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Hrithik Roshan to team up with Jr. NTR for War 2
According to sources, Hrithik Roshan will reprise his role as Kabir, the rogue agent who turns against his own country, in War 2. However, he will not be facing Tiger Shroff this time, as the latter’s character Khalid was killed off in the first film. Instead, Hrithik will be joined by Jr. NTR, the Telugu superstar who is currently making waves with his upcoming film RRR, directed by S.S. Rajamouli. Jr. NTR will reportedly play a new agent who is assigned to track down Kabir and stop his nefarious plans.
War 2 to be directed by Ayan Mukerji
The director of War 2 will be Ayan Mukerji, who is best known for his films Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He is also working on his ambitious project Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. Ayan Mukerji has been roped in by Aditya Chopra to helm War 2, as he is impressed by his vision and style of filmmaking. Ayan Mukerji has already started working on the script and pre-production of War 2, and is expected to start shooting by mid-2024.
War 2 to be a part of YRF’s spy universe
War 2 will not be a standalone film, but a part of YRF’s spy universe, which includes films like Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, Pathaan. Aditya Chopra has envisioned a crossover of these films, where the characters from different franchises will come together for a mega mission. War 2 will introduce Jr. NTR‘s character as a new addition to the spy universe, and will also feature cameo appearances by other actors like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. War 2 will set the stage for the ultimate spy thriller that will bring all these agents under one roof.
