Shahid Kapoor, who was set to play the role of former boxing champion and Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh in a biopic, will not be doing the project anymore. The film’s director Raja Krishna Menon has confirmed that the biopic has been put on the backburner due to various reasons.

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Menon said, “That film has been put on the backburner. That was a boxing film we were talking about. There was a time for it. Sometimes, you need to move on.”
Menon also revealed that he and Shahid Kapoor are still good friends and are looking for another script to collaborate on. “Shahid and I speak about these ideas a lot but as Ishaan says – if I were to find a subject, it has to do justice to so many things including the character Shahid needs to play. There are bigger factors at play in terms of the kind of story we need to tell. Hopefully, we’ll find a script that will be great. We’re friends and I’ve realised that I just really want to make films with friends,” he said.
The Dingko Singh biopic was first announced in 2018, but got delayed due to the busy schedules of Kapoor and Menon. The film was supposed to be co-produced by Kapoor along with Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala.
Meanwhile, Kapoor was last seen in the sports drama Jersey, which was a remake of a Telugu film of the same name. He also made his digital debut with two projects, a film titled Bloody Daddy and a web series, Farzi. He will be next seen opposite Kriti Sanon in an untitled film directed by Amit Joshi Aradhana Sah.
Menon, on the other hand, recently released his war drama Pippa on Amazon Prime Video, which starred Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles. The film is based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war and the heroic tank battle of Garibpur.
