The legendary hockey player Dhyanchand’s biopic has been doing rounds in the industry for almost 5 years now. The film was with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions earlier, and it was pitched to Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. After they rejected, it was almost confirmed that Varun Dhawan will play the lead in the film.
After which, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP bought the rights and has been planning to mount the project on a large scale by 2022. But despite changing hands, the film is still in limbo. Apparently, now even Varun Dhawan has turned down the film.
A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “RSVP approached Varun Dhawan for the movie. The script is terrific and he liked the whole plot. But the problem was that RSVP needed his dates almost immediately after the lockdown this year. He is already committed to several films and he couldn’t accommodate this one, because this will need a lot of his time – for the prep and then, the shoot. So he had to decline the offer.”
Abhishek Chaubey will be directing the film, whereas the director along with Supratik Sen will be writing the screenplay.
Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan will be next seen in Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Amar Kaushik’s Bhediya, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Sanki and Sriram Raghavan’s Ekkis.
