Akshay Kumar opened up about an emotional moment from the sets of Kesari Chapter 2 during a promotional event in Amritsar. The actor, along with the film’s cast, interacted with the media while talking about the upcoming courtroom drama.
He plays C Sankaran Nair in the film. Nair was a lawyer who took on the British after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The story shows his legal fight against colonial rule during one of the darkest chapters of India’s freedom struggle.
Akshay Talks About An Emotional Scene That Left Everyone Teary-Eyed
At the event, Akshay spoke about a powerful scene that hit everyone hard while filming. He said, “Usually, we use glycerin to cry in a scene, but there was this one scene that was so emotional and it had a song, which I’ll make you all listen to once this press conference ends.”
Akshay added, “So while we were filming that scene, the song playing in the background had lyrics that went Kithe gaya tu saiyan, and it was so moving that we didn’t need any glycerin as everyone on set was crying.”
He said the scene felt intense and real. The emotions came out without any effort. He called it one of the most touching moments in the film.
About The Film
The trailer of Kesari: Chapter 2 shows Akshay’s character grilling a British officer about whether any warning was given before the Jallianwala Bagh firing. It follows Nair as he builds a case against the British Crown.
R Madhavan plays the defence lawyer representing the British. The courtroom battle between the two makes up the film’s core conflict. Ananya Panday appears briefly in the trailer. She plays a rare female lawyer from that time and seems to be on Nair’s team.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar addressed the buzz around his use of the ‘F’ word in the trailer. He pointed out that while many were quick to notice the expletive, few reacted to a stronger line where he called someone a “slave. He felt that being called a slave was a far deeper insult, especially in the context of India’s colonial past. According to him, such words reflect a much heavier truth than any curse and should hit harder, given the film’s theme.
Kesari: Chapter 2 is based on The Case That Shook the Empire, a book by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, descendants of the Nair. The film releases in cinemas on April 18.
