Housefull 5, the popular comedy franchise starring Akshay Kumar, which hasn’t announced rest of cast or started shooting yet, has been postponed by a year. The film, which was earlier slated to release on Diwali 2024, will now hit the theatres on June 6, 2025.
Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 gets delayed by a year, real reason?
The makers have released a statement stating top notch VFX requirement as the reason for postponement, when even the film’s casting hasn’t been done yet. The film was expected to go on floors in January 2024 which now looks improbable may be due to casting or budgeting issues. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala is touted to be India’s biggest comedy with a whopping budget of Rs 350 crore.
The statement reads:
“The Housefull franchise owes its massive success to the audiences, and we hope for a similar reception for Housefull 5. The team has crafted an absolutely mind-blowing story that demands top-notch VFX. Therefore, we’ve made the decision to push the release to ensure we deliver five times the entertainment with great cinematic experience. Housefull 5 will now be releasing on 6th June 2025.”
Akshay Kumar and Sajid Nadiadwala joined hands for ‘Housefull‘ back in 2010. Now, more than a decade later, the franchise is about to begin filming for its fifth installment.
‘Housefull 5‘ has been directed by Tarun Mansukhani of ‘Dostana‘ fame. The film will also star Riteish Deshmukh.
Housefull 5 postponed due to casting issues?
According to media reports, Housefull 5 will feature Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh reprising their roles from the previous films, along with new additions to the star cast. The film will also have a crossover element, as it is expected to bring together characters from all the previous Housefull films in a hilarious plot.
“Sajid Nadiadwala was planning to take Housefull 5 on floors by December 2023, however, the plans were pushed to 2024 when the casting was taking longer than expected. Sajid and Akshay approached Abhishek and John to sign them for the film,” revealed a source close to the development.
After the makers couldn’t meet December deadline for the shoot, the film was expected to go on floors from January 15.
“Housefull is a franchise close to both Akshay and Sajid. They both have cracked a subject that doesn’t just do justice to the world of this mad cap comedy, but also raises the stakes. The core plot is locked and the pre-production is in progress to take the film on floors with the first schedule from January 15,” revealed a source close to the development.
Both Abhishek and John had to say no based-on date issues. “While they were more than willing to come on board for Housefull 5, they were not able to allot bulk dates for Housefull 5,” the source added.

But after today’s announcement it looks like makers aren’t ready to take the film on floors even in January, we wonder whether it’s because of casting issues or big budget issues or is it a decision being reconsidered in the light of Animal’s blockbuster success.
