REPORT: Amazon Cancels Raj & DK’s Rs 120 Cr Gulkanda Tales, Citadel India Unlikely To Get 2nd Season, Rakt Bramhand Release In Trouble

Raj & DK are facing growing problems with their projects and financial losses. Check out the detailed info below!

Filmmaker duo Raj & DK have been big names in India’s streaming world. Their shows like The Family Man and Farzi, have caught attention and built large followings.

But now, they’re facing tough times. Their latest series Gulkanda Tales has reportedly been shelved by Amazon Prime Video, even with a huge Rs. 120 crore budget.

Is Gulkanda Tales In Trouble?

The series is a period sex comedy directed by Rahi Anil Barve, known for Tumbbad. It stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Kunal Kemmu. Set in ancient India, it mixes humour and social commentary. However, it seems Prime Video wasn’t satisfied with how it turned out.

A source close to the project shared with Bollywood Hungama, “The show has a satirical take on feminism and misogyny with a mix of Kamasutra-inspired comedy. But after multiple reshoots and edits, the final cut still didn’t sit well with the platform’s management.”

Prime Video is apparently unsure about releasing the series, even with the big budget and years of work behind it.

Citadel: Honey Bunny UNLIKELY To Get A Second Season

This comes after the disappointment of Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian spin-off of the Citadel universe by the Russo Brothers. The show, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, didn’t meet expectations and is now unlikely to get a second season.

Raj shared before the release, “DK and I had to wait a lot in the early part of our career for stars to give us dates. Now that we are producers, it’s time to push all our stories out.”

Unfortunately, their push seems to be facing hurdles. Many viewers felt Varun’s action-packed role didn’t suit him, but Raj defended the casting and said, “I like to push actors, I like to see them in a new light.”

Financial Trouble With Rakt Bramhand

Another big project Rakt Bramhand is now surrounded by controversy. The Netflix-backed show starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Wamiqa Gabbi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ali Fazal, is being investigated for financial fraud.

Sources suggest that accounting issues linked to the executive producer led to a Rs. 2 crore scam. Netflix has launched an investigation, and the show didn’t appear in their recent slate announcement.

Raj & DK are now counting on The Family Man Season 3, starring Manoj Bajpayee. This espionage thriller has been their biggest hit, and the third season is still on track for release.

Industry insiders believe Raj & DK may have taken on too many projects. With growing issues and financial losses, the duo is under pressure. Whether they can recover with The Family Man Season 3 is still uncertain.
