The actor has returned to a full-bodied action zone with Antony, a new suspense-driven action thriller that has officially gone on floors in Mumbai. The casting twist that is instantly raising curiosity is Vijay Varma stepping in as the antagonist, setting up a first-time face-off between two very different screen energies.
With cameras now rolling and a clear theatrical target in sight, Antony is shaping up as one of Deol’s most high-profile action pivots in this phase of his career.

The film’s shoot began on February 27, 2026 in Mumbai, with production aiming to wrap by July 2026. The makers are targeting an early 2027 theatrical release.
Along with Deol, the film stars Jyotika, with Vijay Varma playing the antagonist. The project marks Varma’s first collaboration with Deol, and positions him in a straight-up commercial conflict role against a star known for larger-than-life action.
Antony is backed by Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, in association with filmmaker A R Murugadoss’ production banner. The film is directed by debutant Balaji Ganesh, a Chennai-based filmmaker who has previously worked as an assistant to Murugadoss on large-scale productions. The genre is being described as a suspense-packed action thriller, and the intent is clearly to mount Deol in a full-fledged action avatar rather than a toned-down, one-note role.

In 2026, Deol has multiple titles on the calendar. Gabru has been announced as a theatrical release, while Soorya, an adaptation of the Malayalam thriller Joseph, is in post-production. He also has Lahore 1947 lined up for release in 2026, and will be seen as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic Ramayana, which is slated to arrive in theatres later in 2026.
