Vishal Bhardwaj is working on a period drama starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri (tentatively titled Arjun Ustara). The film has been in the spotlight as it marks Bhardwaj’s fourth project with Shahid after Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon.

In a chat with mid-day, Bhardwaj shared his thoughts on reuniting with Shahid. He shared, “Both of us are excited to come back together. The shooting has been terrific.”
The film was initially planned with the late Irrfan Khan in mind, but now Shahid has taken on the lead role.
This project also brings new collaborations as Bhardwaj is working with Triptii Dimri for the first time. The filmmaker called her “so lovely and such a fine actor.” He also spoke about teaming up with Nana Patekar and admitted, “This is the first time I’m working with Nana Patekar, and I’ve been thinking – Why did I not work with him before?”
Filmmaker Says Even A Great Music Can’t Save A Bad Film
Apart from directing, Bhardwaj is also known for his music. He spoke about how the role of music in films has changed over time. He recalled an era when hit songs could make a movie successful. Later, even great music couldn’t save a bad film. Now, he feels the trend is shifting again.
He cited the example of “Tauba Tauba” from Bad Newz and said that its popularity helped boost the film. “I don’t know if that’s true,” he added.
Shahid started filming Arjun Ustara in January and even shared a picture from the mahurat shot on social media. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, also features Randeep Hooda and Nana Patekar in important roles.
Arjun Ustara is set to hit cinemas on December 5, 2025.
