Marvel has handed Indian fans an early ticket to one of 2026’s biggest theatrical events. Avengers: Doomsday will open in India on December 17, 2026, a full day before its US release, with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans leading the announcement through a festive Diwali message.
The timing gives the reveal extra weight for Marvel audiences in India, especially with Downey Jr. returning to the franchise in a radically different role and Evans also stepping back into one of the saga’s most familiar spaces.

In the video message, Downey Jr. says, “Namaste India! What we love about Diwali is it marks the closing of one chapter and beginning of another…that’s something we know a lot about, except instead of moving from dark to light, I think it might be going in the other direction…Happy Diwali and we will see you in Avengers: Doomsday.” Evans then adds, “You bet!”
The message accompanies confirmation that Avengers: Doomsday will reach Indian cinemas on December 17, ahead of its December 18 release in the United States, giving local audiences an earlier start on one of the year’s biggest studio titles.
What Avengers Doomsday Is Bringing To The Big Screen
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday brings together heroes from multiple Marvel worlds as they confront an existential threat. The film marks Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel franchise as Doctor Doom after his long run as Tony Stark, while Evans returns as Steve Rogers.
The ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour, among several other Marvel names brought together for the event film.
The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz, and will release in India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Premium-format screenings, including Infinity Vision, are also planned.

Downey Jr. most recently appeared in The Sympathizer in 2024, following the major theatrical run of Oppenheimer in 2023, the film that brought him one of the strongest phases of his later career. His next major confirmed screen outing after Avengers: Doomsday is Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for 2027.
Evans’ recent screen run includes Pain Hustlers in 2023, Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024 and Red One in 2024. His current slate also includes confirmed titles such as Honey Don’t!, Materialists and Sacrifice, reflecting a run that moves between big-studio releases and ensemble-driven films.
