Ayushmann Khurrana has hit a new career high! His big Diwali release, Thamma, has taken a massive start at the box office, collecting a huge ₹25.11 crore on its opening day. This isn’t just a big number; it’s the highest opening day collection of Ayushmann’s entire career.
The film, a vampire-themed comedy directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, is the latest entry in Dinesh Vijan’s popular Stree Universe. The fantastic opening shows that audiences were excited to see Ayushmann join this universe and were ready for a fun family entertainer during the festival. The actor is, of course, thrilled with this response.
Ayushmann’s Diwali Dream Comes True
Reacting to the film’s success, Ayushmann shared his happiness. “As an entertainer, it fills me with immense happiness to witness the audience embracing and enjoying Thamma and my performance during this festive Diwali season,” he said.
He explained that getting a Diwali release was always a dream. “When my visionary producer Dinesh Vijan informed me that Thamma would be released during Diwali, I was overjoyed because it was something I had always hoped for in my career.” He added, “Each year, I would visit theaters with my family to see a superstar’s film premiere. Today, I went to the theaters to watch my own film with my family. It’s an amazing feeling!”
‘A Confirmation Of My Journey’
Ayushmann, who has created his own space with unique and quirky films, sees this success as a big win. “This is almost a confirmation of my journey in Hindi cinema,” he stated, giving full credit to his producer. “I am grateful to Dinesh Vijan for believing in me to portray a character with no prior reference like an Indian ‘betaal’ (vampire).”
He said that seeing audiences have fun in the theatres while he plays this new character “is truly a remarkable experience.”
Breaking Diwali Myths
The massive opening day has also proven an important point. Ayushmann noted that this success breaks many common beliefs about what works during the festival. “The love I received on the first day, along with the film’s success, dispels many myths that audiences only wish to see sequels, remakes, and films featuring major stars during Diwali,” he said.
He believes the success of Thamma clearly shows that viewers are always eager for good, quality content. “Families are bringing their children to see my film during this festive time. Every actor aspires to experience this… I’m thrilled to be experiencing this with Thamma.”
