A modern pairing is coming to the big screen! Babil Khan and Alaya F are set to act for the first time in a hard-hitting crime thriller by Bodhayan Roychaudhury, director of the critical success Sector 36 (2024). The project is untitled and based on real-life events and promises to be a relatable, raw-natured narrative.
This will be a first-time collaboration between the two actors who come from different cinematic narratives — Babil Khan is the son of the acting legend Irrfan Khan; Alaya F is making her way with quirky boundaries toward commerciality. The project already has early buzz and support, with the duo potentially offering something different.
The project is in pre-production and expected to flush out by mid-2025, with a hopeful theatrical release by early 2026.
What We Know About the Crime Thriller
The unnamed film is described as a gritty narrative rooted in true-life events, focusing on a complicated investigation with psychological themes and urban decay. Roychaudhury, who shocked critics with Sector 36, is said to take the story into more moral ambiguity in a way that suits the actors’ versatility — Babil and Alaya.
A source connected to the project stated:
“The movie incorporates elements of dark with visceral emotional stakes in the center of it. It’s not a whodunit movie, it’s a whydunit, and layered in that is the performances.”

Box Office Worldwide Verdict
A dark crime thriller with contemporary stars and an established filmmaker? Sign us up. Babil and Alaya represent both vulnerability and freshness, and given Bodhayan Roychaudhury‘s sharp storytelling, this might take things beyond the trappings of the genre.
If things align, this may languidly, quietly morph into the biggest surprise of cinema in 2026.
