The first big emotional beat of Batwara is set to arrive before the spectacle. As the Partition era drama sharpens its campaign, the makers have lined up a special asset that places Sunny Deol and Karan Deol’s real life father son bond at the heart of the film’s early buzz.
Batwara Team Plans A Father’S Day Promo
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that a special promo featuring Sunny Deol and Karan Deol is being designed as part of the film’s June campaign. The teaser is planned for June 15, giving the Aamir Khan backed film a compact promotional burst before its August release.
A source shared, “Batwara stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal, and it also features Sunny’s son, Karan Deol. This is the first time that the father and son will share screen space, and they have an interesting dynamic in the film. The makers wanted to present the same to the audience. Hence, a special promo is being designed to highlight their bond.”
The source further added, “Father’s Day will be celebrated on June 21. Hence, the team of Batwara 1947 felt that it would be an apt day to bring the father-son asset out. A final call will be taken in the coming week, but as of now, the Father’s Day asset plan is on.”
Batwara Brings A Partition Era Story To The Big Screen
Batwara was earlier known as Lahore 1947 before the makers moved ahead with the new title. A source had earlier explained the thought behind the change, saying, “Lahore 1947 is based on the famous play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’. Since the film is set in the Pakistani city and during the Independence period, the title Lahore 1947 was initially deemed suitable. But now the makers feel that there can be a better title that is apt for the story of the film.”
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, Batwara features Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol. The film draws from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play about a Muslim family moving from Lucknow to Lahore and encountering an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her ancestral home. Batwara is scheduled to release in cinemas on August 13, 2026.
Sunny Deol’s Comeback Run And Upcoming Work
Sunny Deol’s recent theatrical run has turned into a major comeback story. He returned as Tara Singh in Gadar 2 in 2023, a blockbuster that revived one of Hindi cinema’s most loved screen characters for a new generation. He followed it with Jaat in 2025 and Border 2 in 2026, extending a phase built on large scale theatrical entertainers.
His confirmed lineup keeps that momentum intact. Along with Batwara, Sunny has Gabru, Netflix original Ikka, and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, in which he plays Hanuman. Karan Deol, meanwhile, made his acting debut with Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas in 2019, later appeared in Velle in 2021, and now moves into his third film with Batwara.
