After Tumbbad and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani saw a great response and Sanam Teri Kasam became a surprise hit in the re-run, another classic is set to return to cinemas. Rajkumar Santoshi’s 1996 action thriller Ghatak, starring Sunny Deol, is now gearing up for a theatrical comeback.
When Will Ghatak Re-release In Theatres?
A source said to Bollywood Hungama that Ghatak was a major box office hit when it was released in 1996. The film remains popular for its intense action, emotional depth, and memorable songs. Sunny Deol’s recent success with Gadar 2 has increased audience demand to see him on the big screen again. This led to the decision to bring Ghatak back to cinemas.
The film is expected to re-release on February 28, but the date might change. Sunny Deol is also set to actively promote the film ahead of its theatrical comeback.
About The 1996 Action Thriller
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Ghatak is among the most powerful action films of the ’90s. The film follows a man who comes to Mumbai from Banaras for his father’s treatment.
While staying with his uncle, he falls in love and soon finds himself in a battle against a ruthless gangster who terrorises the colony. The film is known for its gripping plot, high-energy action, and emotional depth.
Alongside Sunny Deol, the film featured Meenakshi Seshadri, Amrish Puri, and Danny Denzongpa. The song “Koi Jaye To Le Aaye,” featuring Mamta Kulkarni, remains a fan favourite even today.
The buzz around Ghatak’s re-release comes just after the announcement of Andaz Apna Apna returning to cinemas in April.
Talking about Sunny Deol, the actor is busy with his upcoming film Jaat, set to hit theatres on April 10.
