Arshad Warsi has stirred the pot with recent comments on the YouTube show Unfiltered by Samdish. The actor found himself in hot water after criticising Prabhas’s performance in Kalki 2898 AD, calling him “like a joker”.
But it’s another revelation that’s now grabbing headlines: Warsi’s pay dispute over his choreographing work for the 1993 film Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.
Warsi claimed he was promised Rs 1 lakh for choreographing a song for the film, which starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. He said he completed the task in three days instead of the agreed four days, hoping for a bonus. However, he was paid Rs 75,000 instead.
Warsi recounted, “The production guy requested me to finish the song sooner because shooting for four days would increase costs. I told him I’d try my best, and we worked very hard to get the song done, but we finished in three days. I thought that the production would be happy. I went to get my cheque, and they gave me Rs 75,000. I said, ‘I just saved you an entire day’s shoot, you should pay me more!’ He said, ‘No, for four days it’s Rs 1 lakh, and for three days it’s Rs 75,000.’”
Boney Kapoor REACTS To Arshad Warsi’s Claims
Boney Kapoor, the film’s producer, was quick to respond. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Kapoor dismissed Warsi’s claims with a chuckle. “I read his statement and I laughed. 1992 mein shoot kiya aur yeh abhi baat kar raha hai iske baare mein. At that time, he was not a star. Who would have paid him such a huge amount?”
Kapoor explained that the production team, led by director Pankaj Parashar and production manager Tutu Sharma, had initially budgeted for four days. However, Parashar managed to wrap up the shoot in three days. Kapoor added, “He was paid Rs 25,000 per day. Hence, he was paid Rs 75,000 for three days. It was not like he was promised a certain amount.”
Boney Kapoor Also Questions Warsi For Not Raising The Issue In The Past
Kapoor also noted that Warsi had never raised this issue during their past interactions, including on a TV show they appeared on together. Kapoor remarked, “He never mentioned it and now, suddenly he talks about it. Everybody wants media attention now and I am a soft target.”
Pankaj Parashar, who directed the song, clarified that he was not involved in the payment decisions. “I was directing the song as a favour to Boney. I don’t think Boney even knew who was paying what. I think Arshad said it in humour,” Parashar said.
He added, “Arshad says that he completed the shoot in three days, but it was me who finished it. I was the director while he was a newcomer choreographer. Let him take credit and let’s not make an issue out of this.”
