Telugu actor Allu Arjun was arrested by the Hyderabad police in connection with a tragic stampede at the premiere of Pushpa 2 on December 4. The incident took place at Sandhya Theatre and resulted in the death of 39-year-old M Revathi, while her son was left critically injured.
Authorities stated that the stampede occurred when a large crowd tried to get closer to Arjun as he arrived at the theatre. The police have filed charges against the actor, his security team, and the theatre management, accusing them of contributing to the chaos.
Allu Arjun Arrested As Investigation Reveals Lack Of Police Notification
The investigation revealed that the film’s team did not inform the police about their arrival, which led to confusion. Arjun was arrested on Friday by a team from the Chikkadpally police station, where the case was registered. The actor is expected to appear before a magistrate soon.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshansh Yadav told The Indian Express, “A case has been filed under BNS section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint of the family members of the deceased person. It is being investigated. Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others.”
Actor’s Unexpected Arrival Led To Chaos With One Dead And Multiple Injured
The situation worsened when Arjun arrived at the theatre around 9:30 pm with his personal security. As the crowd rushed to see him, his security team allegedly started pushing people, escalating the chaos.
M Revathi, a homemaker, had attended the premiere with her family. Her son was also caught in the stampede and is now in critical condition.
After the incident, the owner of Sandhya Theatre and two employees were arrested. The authorities claim that the theatre did not take adequate steps to manage the crowd, such as setting up a separate entry and exit for the actor’s team.
Arjun had approached the Telangana High Court, seeking to have his name removed from the FIR, but the matter has not yet been heard. The investigation is still ongoing, and police are continuing to examine everyone involved in the incident.
