The much-awaited film Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, is all set to hit the theatres on 22 December 2023, coinciding with Christmas. The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is a social comedy-drama about an illegal immigration technique named “Donkey Flight” used by Indians to enter countries like Canada and USA.
Shah Rukh Khan Claims Dunki Release Date
Shah Rukh Khan keeps his fans happy by indulging in frequent cheeky tweets on social media platforms. Today he tweeted about release date of Dunki in middle of rumours of clash of the film with Prabhas starrer Salaar.
He shared on social media, “Dunki fixed hi hai. Aur kya karoon Maathe pe gudwaa loon.”

Dunki’s confirmed release date emailed to Exhibitors
This morning the makers of Dunki have sent an email to exhibitors across the country, confirming the release date of the film and requesting them to block the screens for the same.
After the reports of Prabhas starrer Salaar too releasing on Christmas surfaced, there were rumours that Shah Rukh Khan starrer may be looking at another date next year, but this email has now quashed all the rumours of film’s postponement. The film will release on Christmas 2023 as planned and announced earlier.
Earlier Shah Rukh Khan had also quashed the rumours of Dunki’s postponement at Jawan’ssuccess press conference. King Khan said, “God has been kind to me this year – first Pathan, then Jawan! Meine kaam nahi kia 3 saal (I didn’t work for three years), I was worried about coming back, but thankfully all went well and I promise Dunki Christmas pe aaigi. Aur har movie jab meri release hoti hai uss din Eid bann hi jaati hai (Whenever my movie comes, Eid is celebrated that day)”.
Dunki to release a day earlier in overseas
According to a source close to the development, Dunki is expected to be a global phenomenon and the team is keen to position it as a global offering from Indian cinema.
“While Jawan’s campaign focused on the Southern market, with Dunki, Red Chillies will be going global with their appeal and messaging. Big plans are in place and the plans are locked to bring the film in the international markets on December 21, reaping the benefit of the extended holiday period,” the source revealed.
The source further added that Dunki will have a full-fledged release on December 21 and not just late-night premiere shows. “The idea is to maximize on word of mouth and get the audience excited for the conventional weekend from Friday to Sunday. SRK is the biggest Indian name in the international belts and with the support of global holidays, Dunki will do unimaginable numbers in the four-day weekend period before getting into Christmas holiday,” the source shared.
Dunki to clash with Salaar on Christmas
Dunki will clash with Prabhas’s Salaar at the box office this Christmas. However, there are also rumours that Dunki might release a day early in India as well, to avoid the clash and get an edge over Salaar. The makers are yet to confirm or deny this speculation.
“Dunki test screens have already taken place and met with overwhelming responses. The team is confident to even go unconventional with the domestic release if need be, as the word of mouth will kick in even faster for the bigger days of the film business. A non-holiday Thursday release is also being considered at this point of time in India, but the exact release date is a card which they will be keeping close to their chest until November,” the source concluded.
